When I view your photos, they don’t present a cheerful sight, reminiscent of a Canadian tourist’s perspective. It appears that in the three decades since the Velvet Revolution, we’ve made little progress. Displaying the Soviet Union’s flag in this day and age is sheer malevolence.

I am Canadian, but likely see a different Prague than most tourists. I lived in Prague for almost two years during 1991-3, have visited the city many times since, and have published four books on Prague and modern Czech history (see also my other website coastsofbohemia.com) as well as a guide to the city that attempts to go beyond the usual tourist guidebook. I merely photograph what is there. If you click on the tag “Prague” at the foot of the page it will list all the other pages on the website with images of Prague. The images are not always cheerful, but Prague’s modern history—after as well as before 1989—has not been uniformly cheerful either.
